Book Spotlight: Web of Memory by Tara Fox Hall

Blurb:

Sarelle’s return to her loved ones brings a brief measure of solace, even as she mourns all that changed in her absence. Rene’s presence and Sar’s pact with Shaker add as much tension as comfort, as the delicate balance of Sar’s life threatens to collapse under the weight of all she endured as Michael’s prisoner. Determined to reclaim her life, Sar fights back, inadvertently sparking Danial’s memory as an unseen ancient enemy prepares to strike a fatal blow.

Excerpt:

Lash was opening wound after wound on his attacking vampire with every stroke of his whip, but it was still on its feet, darting after him, hissing, its fangs bared, healing almost as fast as he hurt it. The other vampire was circling him, Lash’s knife clutched in one hand, ready to strike at the first opening.
Suddenly, Lash wrapped his whip around a huge painting with a snap of his wrist, and pulled it down. It splintered over the armed vampire’s head, knocking him down, though it didn’t let go of the knife. Lash was on him, a shattered table leg in his hand. With a snarling hiss, he drove it into the vampire’s chest, even as the other grabbed hold of him. The staked vampire let out a breath to scream and dropped the knife, even as Lash turned to punch the other vampire in the teeth, breaking one of his fangs.
The staked vampire was trying with blood-slick hands to pull out the stake, but Lash decapitated him with a blow to the throat with his blade, severing his head, blood spurting out. Lash cleaned his knife on the dead vampire’s clothes, and got to his feet, still only in his underwear. The broken fang vampire backed away, until he was in front of the one holding me.
Lash advanced slowly. “You bastards,” he hissed menacingly. “Come over here.”
“Come and get me, Lash,” the vampire holding me hissed. “And see what happens!”
Lash started for us, but another vampire erupted from the shadows, grabbing hold of him. I watched in fear as it sank its fangs into his neck and began to drink. Lash snarled in pain, bared his own fangs, and sank them into the vampire’s hand. The feeding vampire tore his fangs out of Lash with a scream and tried to pull away, fighting hard as he began to shake. Lash shoved backward into him, knocking them both to the floor and kept biting for another few seconds before he abruptly let go.
Lash sprang to his feet and stalked toward us. The bitten vampire stayed down, now convulsing.
“So it’s true!” the vampire in front of me said incredulously. “Your poison can affect our kind.”
“You want some of that?” Lash hissed in fury. “You’re getting some either way, Fuckface. Let her
go. I’ll give you a head start, if you let her go now.”
The vampires both hissed, backing away with me towards the door as Lash advanced. Abruptly, the vampire holding me let go and began convulsing. He fell to the floor, his back bent almost double as he screeched his lungs out. With a deafening crackle of energy, the vampire in front of us also went to his knees, his hair alight at the ends, his eyes melting as he scrabbled at them with his fingers, unseeing.
Rene was behind me, sparks of energy still running through her hands. “He’s dead,” she said calmly. “They both are. A few more jerks, and that’ll be it. Are you okay, Sister?”

Author Spotlight on Tara Fox Hall and Tempest of Vengeance

Blurb:

A chain of tragic events cumulating in the shattering of the magical "dream bond" between Theo and Sar turns the lovers against one another, as Ulysses attacks from all fronts, hoping to destroy Devlin for good. The return of Lash reignites the fire between he and Sar, even as he saves her daughter Elle from certain death. Finally joined under Oath, Lash, Devlin, and Sar face the storm of Ulysses's wrath, knowing it will take their combined strength and courage to save all they love from his tempest of vengeance.

Excerpt:

My tired eyes shot open in surprise. Lash was also taken aback, studying Devlin as if he was waiting for the vampire to state some kind of condition. Devlin had been holding the edges of the door frame and now he let go of one, and stepped aside. Lash looked past him to me, lying there in Devlin’s bed. It was too dark for me to see what he was feeling by his eyes, and even then, he had become a lot better at hiding his emotions, now that his eyes weren’t always flat.
Lash stepped in the room. Devlin shut the door behind him, then came back, and got into bed. Lash came to the bottom of the bed and stopped, his face still unreadable.
“What are you waiting for? Go shower and get in here already,” Devlin ordered, grief still heavy in his words.
“Dev, why are you saying that this is okay now?” Lash hissed, annoyed.
“Because life is too short,” Dev said flatly. “Danial thought he had eternity. That he was going to see Elle and Theoron grow up. He may never get the chance to now. I may have lost him for good. And now my niece has been hurt badly...” Devlin paused, swallowed hard and began again. “I’ve been the cause of a lot of suffering. And I’m not causing any more, not for you or her, not if I can help it.”
“You’re sure?” Lash hissed in a malicious tone. “Don’t offer me this and then change your mind, Dev, like you have before. It’s yes or no, tonight and from now on. Because if she wants me, I’m not giving her up because you tell me to, not ever again.”
I wanted to say “what about Gina?”, but decided to hold my tongue. I was feeling too happy just knowing he wanted me, that he still cared for me as he had months ago.
“I want you here. She wants you here. Stay.” Devlin said.

Take Some Time By Tara Fox Hall

A huge thank you to Rhonda Jackson Joseph for having me here today!

I’m here today to promote Broken Promise, the second book in the paranormal romance Promise Me series.

Instead of the normal few paragraphs on my characters, their various allures, and why you should read my book, I’m instead going to take this time to tell you to take a deep breath, and relax. Yes, really. Breathe in, hold it, and then let it out slowly. There…don’t you feel a bit better?

This time of year is blessed with holiday preparation, fun gatherings with friends, rediscovering old memories, and also enjoying oodles of good food and drink. Hopefully, we also include a few minutes of relaxation to fully enjoy this time of the year and the people or creatures we love. But I admit right here and now that it’s been a good while since I zonked out in sprawled abandon like the little cat who is currently snoring loudly on my lap. It’s been much, much longer since I settled down with a good book without a pen in hand to record pages of excerpts that I plan to quote in a review, or a highlighter to mark passages to use in my own writing projects. We all  hear about how we need to take some time for ourselves each day, but how many of us workaholics actually do it? There is too much to do, comment on, tweet, write, email, or blog. And that’s just on the internet! Pile on the regular day job, family responsibilities, and home upkeep, and you’re lucky to maintain sanity.

The downside of this is usually either a meltdown of epic proportions which could have some lasting consequences on whomever is with you at the time, or sickness which can range from a simple cold to a supervirus that puts you out of commission for a week or more. At best, even if you get everything done and remain healthy, all this busy-ness is sure to make you grumpy. When there is N amount of time and N+100 things to do, something has to give. Make sure it’s not your health or your sanity. Take a little time each day for yourself. Make time for things that are important to you, even if you’re the only one that thinks they are important.

Yesterday, I put some more glow in the dark stars up on my bedroom ceiling. They weren’t expensive…and yes, likely the kind of decoration Martha Stewart would frown on. It didn’t take long to put them up…maybe ten minutes for total prep, application, and putting the adhesive and stepstool away afterwards. But I felt pure joy while I was putting up those little stars, thinking about darkness falling, and going to bed and seeing them glowing up above me. Later that night, when I beheld them glowing above me, I felt that same simple joy again.

Take some time to relax this holiday season. Your family might not care so much that you didn’t make all seven of their favorite cookies, that you didn’t handmake all the Christmas gifts, or that you got the cards out late. They will care that someone they love is sane enough to spend time with them, and love them in return.

Blurb from Broken Promise:

Shocked at Danial’s betrayal, Sarelle returns to her old home to consider her options. Yet even as Sar plans a reconciliation with Danial, Terian arrives, confessing his desire. When Theo witnesses Terian and Sar kiss, he angrily confronts Sar, leading to startling consequences. Will Sar’s heart choose Danial, Terian,…or Theo?

Excerpt from Broken Promise:

Danial followed me. “Sar,” he said hesitantly.
I turned reluctantly to face him. “Danial, say whatever you have to say and get out,” I said wearily. “I’m exhausted.”
“I love you,” he said, his eyes tearing.
“I know you do,” I said evenly, meeting his gaze with my own, before turning from him to start washing the dishes.
I felt him behind me in an instant, and put down the dish I’d been holding before I dropped it. His hands rested on my shoulders, and then slid down my arms, enfolding me as he pulled me close. His hands were cool, as they had been the first time we embraced.
How many nights had I longed to be back in his arms? How many nights had I wished he would come to me like this, and tell me he loved me? Almost every night since we parted. But it didn’t change anything between us.
“I was wrong, Sar. I was wrong to do what I did.” He leaned his head on my shoulder, holding me. “I want you to know, I didn’t have sex with her. I left her, after talking to you. Please forgive me, for the things I said to you that night,” he whispered into my ear. “Please forgive me, my Oathed One.”
